Inside A Fighter Jet - I was in the cockpit of a Typhoon fighter jet. There is a vast sea of bends, curves and square screens representing different shapes and sizes.
Suddenly the thing in front of me melted. Some virtual screens flying in the air changed everything. I can grab them, move them and arrange them however I want. Some of the screens vibrate - a very interesting way to make sure I get important information from project management quickly.

It's not a real cockpit - but. This is a scene inside an Oculus Rift headset at defense company BAE Systems' training and simulation integration facility. Based in Warton, UK, the company is trying to design fighter jets for the 2040s and beyond - starting with the cockpit. "These companies have research funds like nations," says Mark Bowman, a former Royal Air Force pilot who is now head of aerospace at BAE. "If Microsoft can put billions of dollars into its virtual reality glasses, HoloLens, we'd be foolish not to know if there are ways to use them."

The burning question in my mind is what the team comes up with to replace the cockpit with a land view.
This is where Bowman refutes my ideas. It's been a long time since fighter pilots took to the cockpit. In most airlines, the primary form of AI is a co-pilot.
Exotic jets like the Eurofighter Typhoon are the most vulnerable because they are designed to last forever on the edge of losing power without winning. People give the overall strategy, but in Typhoon, for example, four computers calculate the best way to execute a move and choose between them before going. Because all of this happens in an unknown fraction of a second, the pilot's focus is on calling all the shots. But when the pilot tries to land the plane, they find that the computers won't allow it.
In the future, AI will be more important, from generating information to show the pilot to taking full control of the aircraft. Bowman believes that people must become the force they are before they transform. It envisions a human controlling a group of 20 drones in an aircraft that will be flown by artificial intelligence.

Finally, the driver may be controlled by a computer, which is very rare at the moment. Defense companies are looking at ways to do this using everything from eye tracking to brain scanners. "We want to know exactly how much information a driver can process at any given time, and then use artificial intelligence to manage the cognitive load," Bowman said.
